Happy Spring!
As of 6:45PM today, the sun's declination will be in the Northern Hemisphere. What does this mean, you ask? Well, it's the first day of spring! The official change in seasons from winter to spring occurs on the Vernal Equinox, which occurs around March 21st every year. On this day, day and night are 12 hours everywhere on earth, earth's north-south axis is perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic (the plane of Earth's orbit), and it is sunrise at the North Pole, and sunset at the South Pole.
Days will continue to get longer for us in the Tri-Cities region of Tennessee until the summer solstice in June, when we'll experience the longest day of the year.
In the meantime, enjoy the daffodils! (Image from pinterest.com)
