Siberian Express

Two more cold fronts to move into the region over the next couple of days. Global circulation is key to

this week's weather because we are experiencing cold Arctic air that originated over Siberia, flowed over the north pole, and is moving FAST to the south. The landmass is already cold, so it's not doing much to warm up this cold air mass. It's also coming in two waves (hence the two cold fronts in the map below!)

Also check out the temperature map. See how it's warmer in Texas, and then the cold temps dip down in Mississippi? Well, look at the current wind map from www.hint.fm/wind (click on the link for the animated version - very cool to see the winds screaming across the eastern half of the country). Warm air from the gulf is also moving northwest in towards Dallas - hence the warmer temps there.
